Dr. Albert Koong graduated with a BS in Biological Sciences from Stanford University (1989). He then earned his PhD in Cancer Biology from Stanford University (1994) and his MD from Northwestern University (1996). He completed his residency training in Radiation Oncology at Stanford University (2001) and is board certified in this specialty. He was appointed to the faculty in the Stanford School of Medicine in 2001. Currently, he is the Sue and Bob McCollum Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology and serves as the Associate Chair and Director of Clinical Operations. His area of clinical research interest is in the development of advanced radiotherapy techniques for the treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies. He also leads a laboratory research program focused on studying the impact of the tumor microenvironment on tumor growth and metastases. The major goals of this research are to develop therapies targeting the tumor microenvironment. To date, he has published over 140 articles in peer -reviewed journals spanning his clinical and laboratory research interests.
